Many popular apps, including Spotify, GroupMe, Pinterest, and TikTok were busy Wednesday responding to users reporting iOS crashes. According to a very long thread on GitHub, it seemed to be due to a Facebook SDK issue. Downdetector records a crash report on Spotify from 3.30 am to 5.30 pm pacific time. At that time, it seems that there were a lot of reports from other popular apps. The user's crash report seems to have stopped by the time this article was published.
Users have reported that the app shut down shortly immediately after lunch. For many users, many of their favorite apps will connect to Facebook's servers immediately after launch. Developers of technology companies not only rely on Facebook's login portal. but also rely on Facebook's SDK for advertising insights. Early reports suggest that users affected by the issue did not have to bother using Facebook login to get involved in the issue.
"Earlier Today, a new release of Facebook included a change that triggered crashes for some users in some apps using the Facebook iOS SDK. We identified the issue quickly and resolved it. We apologize for any inconvenience," Facebook spokesperson said in a statement.
