Facebook Follows Instagram in Removing Like Counts

Facebook began to hide like counts and reactions on an account to others. At the same time, the likes and reacts can be viewed by the account holder. This is being trialed on the Australian users from 27th of September. Instagram, the photo and video-sharing social networking, of Facebook has gone through a similar move earlier. Facebook says that they took this move as an attempt to spread confidence in the users to post things without the fear of likes and comments. And the users will not judge the post with the number of likes it got. Thus the likes and popularity will be genuine.

Mia Garlick, the spokeswoman, told the Australian Associated Press “ taking that number out of the equation, so that people can focus on the quality of their interactions and the quality of the content rather than on the number of likes or reactions,". Another Facebook spokesperson stated to TechCrunch: “We are running a limited test where like, reaction, and video view counts are made private across Facebook. We will gather feedback to understand whether this change will improve people’s experiences.”

This change will be helpful to reduce Cyber bullying. However, studies have revealed that these social media like counts harms several people. How many suicides took place because of Cyber bullying and inferiority complexes made by social media. Once, the social media influencers said that showing likes were the business metric of these social media. Facebook, through this change, has counter blasted these rumors. Facebook decided to keep the change if there will be a good stimulation due to this movement.
