Cortana, the virtual assistant created by Microsoft for Windows 10, and Windows powered smartphones etc. launched on 2014. Unfortunately, Microsoft is shutting down Cortana for Android and iOS devices on January 31, 2020 in regions such as UK, Canada, Australia and few other countries.
A Microsoft spokesperson said, “Cortana is an integral part of our broader vision to bring the power of conversational computing and productivity to all our platforms and devices.” Unfortunately, Microsoft is shutting down their services not only in Britain, Australia and Canada and include markets as China, Germany, India, Mexico and Spain.
Microsoft virtual assistant mainly works to configure settings and update firmware devices such as Microsoft's Surface Headphones. Lists, reminders and developed for iOS and Android can be accessed via Cortana on Windows. A Microsoft post says, "To make your personal digital assistant as helpful as possible, we're integrating their virtual assistant into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps. As part of this evolution, on January 31st, 2020, we're ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS in your market.”
“At that point, the virtual assistant content you created–such as reminders and lists–will no longer function in the Cortana mobile app or Microsoft Launcher, but can still be accessed through on Windows. Also, reminders, lists, and tasks are automatically synced to the Microsoft To Do app, which you can download to your phone for free. After January 31st, 2020, Microsoft's assistant mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported and there will be an updated version of Microsoft Launcher with Cortana removed.”
